The South African Fulbright Foreign Student Program provides fully funded grants for South African university graduates to pursue post-graduate studies at a university in the United States. The program offers opportunities for Master's and PhD degrees (awarded for two years for one degree), as well as a Visiting Student Researcher (VSR) non-degree program for current PhD students. Selected candidates receive a high level of support ranging from visa processing and health insurance to a comprehensive pre-departure orientation.

Eligibility
Must be a South African citizen or a permanent resident with a minimum of 5 years of permanent residency status
Must not be a resident in the U.S. or hold dual citizenship with the U.S.
VSR applicants must be currently registered for a PhD at a South African university
Master's applicants must hold a 4-year bachelor's degree, a BTech degree, or a 3-year bachelor's degree with an honors degree
PhD applicants must hold a master's degree

Clearly articulated study objectives and reasons for selecting preferred U.S. universities
Demonstrable interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a genuine desire to learn about the U.S.
Experience and interest in extracurricular and community activities
Commitment to giving back to South Africa upon returning
Required scores for GRE and TOEFL (only required for semi-finalists, vouchers provided)
