The Global Affairs Canada International Scholarships program offers exceptional international students the opportunity to undertake short-term study or research exchanges at Canadian post-secondary institutions. Funded by the Government of Canada, the program aims to strengthen bilateral ties and diversify Canada's international education linkages. Students remain registered at their home institutions while spending 4 to 6 months in Canada, allowing them to experience world-class academic environments, collaborate with leading Canadian researchers, and earn credits without paying tuition to the Canadian host institution.
Benefits
Living allowance of $10,200 CAD for 4 months (undergraduate/graduate)
Living allowance of up to $14,000 CAD for 5 to 6 months (graduate research only)
Funds are intended to cover round-trip airfare and visa/study permit fees
Funds cover health insurance, books, and living expenses (accommodation, food, transit)
Complete waiver of tuition fees at the Canadian host institution
Eligibility
Must be a citizen of an eligible country or territory
Must be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country
Must pay tuition fees to the home institution for the full duration of the exchange
Must be proficient in the language of instruction at the Canadian institution (English or French)
Must have a valid student exchange agreement between the home and Canadian host institution (for coursework study exchanges)
Requirements
Official nomination by the international office of the applicant's home institution
Acceptance by a participating Canadian partner university or a willing Canadian research supervisor
Strong academic standing at the home institution
A clear study or research plan aligned with the Canadian host institution's expertise
Commitment to return to the home institution to complete the degree after the exchange

Proof of full-time enrolment at the home institution
Letter of intent from the candidate (maximum one page)
Letter of support from the home institution
Letter of invitation from the Canadian supervisor (for graduate research students)

Application Process
Express interest to your home institution's international exchange coordinator
Ensure a formal exchange agreement exists with a Canadian institution (or secure a Canadian research supervisor)
Submit all required internal documents to your home university for official nomination
The Canadian host institution applies to EduCanada on your behalf via the online portal
Await final selection results and funding disbursement instructions from Global Affairs Canada

Contact your university's study abroad or international relations office immediately to be nominated
Gather all necessary documents, including transcripts and letters of intent, and submit them to your home coordinator
Ensure your Canadian host institution has all your materials to submit the final application before the March 31, 2026 deadline
Selection Process
Internal screening and nomination by the applicant's home institution
Evaluation of the candidate's academic merit and research proposal by the Canadian host institution
Assessment of institutional linkages, geographic representation, and gender equity by Global Affairs Canada
Final approval and funding allocation distributed directly to the Canadian host institutions
